With a 2010 budget of $126 million, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), which isn’t affiliated with any local humane societies or animal shelters, contributed less than one percent of its budget to local organizations. States like Maine, Vermont, West Virginia, Arkansas, North Dakota, Wyoming and Alaska received no support from the national organization.
